Another wonderful website.  Historic Australian Newspapers, 1803 to 1954.  This site provides access to out-of-copyright digitised newspapers from capital cities across Australia.


I've recently been using it to track a story from Morwell early last century which has all the ingredients of a modern day soap: man disappears, bride left at the altar, wedding, children, paranoia, murder, police search, bushfires, two bodies identified as the murderer. A tragic story for the two families concerned.


It is not all sensationalism or big city news though. Advertising, family notices, community news from country towns and districts make digitalised newspapers invaluable. I was very excited to find my ggg grandmother death notice from 1839.
